Not So Much Medium As Extra Large?
The big question for fans of the hit TV show Medium, when season 6 finished in the US, was would there be a Season 7 of the popular NBC / CBS TV show, starring Patricia Arquette?
The good news was a new 22 episode season 7 of Medium began in September 2010 in the US. Sadly, Bad News followed in the form of a message to MEDIUM fans from series creator Glenn Gordon Caron:
"It's true. Allison Dubois will dream her last dream on "Medium", Friday, January 21st 2011 in what we believe will be a series defining episode, Allison and her family will stare destiny in the eye. And destiny will not blink."
In other words CBS are pulling the plug mid season!
Final Episode on CBS: Me Without You
The finale episode on January 21 2011 met with approval from most Medium fans. Allison, who loses her husband Joe in a plane accident, has become an attorney. She then realizes that Joe may still be alive in Mexico, suffering from amnesia.
However, this turns out to be just a dream and Joe finally appears to tell her that he really is dead. Allison happily lives to a ripe old age and finally meets Joe on the other side.
Why did CBS pull the plug? They are rumoured to be uncomfortable with the planned change to more steamy and erotic story lines as the season progressed. Insiders at CBS also whisper about a possible switch to a new production company in Canada with a format that appeals more to European and South American audiences.

What next for Medium Fans?
So for Medium fans, as far as CBS goes, all that left now is the Season 7 Medium DVD and no doubt the whole Seven Seasons Medium Delux boxed set.
For those of you who don’t know, In the TV show Medium, Patricia Arquette plays Allison DuBois, a para-legal secretary to the local DA in Arizona. Allison, based on a real life person of the same name, helps the DA and the police department solve crimes using her psychic powers.
Had the show been allowed to run its course or if production moves to Canada then Alison will kick off the 2nd half of the season with poor, long-suffering husband Joe shaken from his slumber with a nightmare tale of gory toilet cubicles and dead prostitutes.
But Surely Joe is Dead?
No just another of Allison's bad dreams. Later the same week Allison guides her boss, DA Manuel Devalos and the police department to a gruesome desert grave and a blood splattered hideaway.
No significant changes in the plotlines so far then. It is amazing just how many gruesome slayings there are in Arizona and how Alison's dream-fuelled crime prevention efforts are so successful.
The next episode begins with Allison and Joe in bed, as usual. They spend a lot of time in bed. I guess Ms Arquette arrives on set each day in her hideous pyjamas. Her husband Joe also wears bad pyjamas. It’s a shame because they are a really good looking couple.
If the nightmare nightwear isn’t bad enough, Patricia wears a special, reinforced flattening bra to hide her fabulous breasts from the cameras.
Even when it appears that she and Joe might be getting it on, the pajamas (and bra) remain on and the camera withdraws before we can see anything remotely romantic.
Dreams of a Slaying in the Abattoir
Anyway tonight they sleep fitfully until 1.30 am when Allison wakes suddenly having dreamt about a young school teacher being butchered in an abattoir by a man named Frank.
The Arizona dawn finds Allison, tired and washed out as usual and preoccupied by her latest nightmares.
In the local mall, she bumps into an old college friend she hasn’t seen for over 10 years. The upshot is they grab a coffee together and catch up on old times.
“Alison you look kinda stressed and tired, what's wrong?” enquired Pam.
“You know that weird psychic gift thing I had at school? Well now I’m a Para-legal with the DA and I dream about slayings and solve crimes using my powers as a medium.”
“Sounds really cool. Does it pay well?”
“Not really. I don’t sleep too good either.”
“Well you sure are helping the DA with crime prevention. Anyway, I might be able to help,” said Pam, “I’m a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and, as an old friend, I’ll be happy to give you some free CBT sessions. We can talk through your hang ups and help you to overcome your anxieties so you can sleep better.”

The DA's Office
The scene cuts to Allison, the next day, with the DA, Manuel Devalos in his office.
“You know, my career was dying on its feet,” recalled Manuel, “until you came along. Now I have friends in high places across the continent. Do you remember the 67 slayings perpetrated by that serial killer, 'the Butcher of Queen’s' in New York City? And what about your dream about the bearded guy in a hole in the desert?"
“Saddam Hussein?” queried Allison, her thoughts obviously elsewhere.
“Yeh that’s the guy. So now I’m the toast of Langley. The CIA love me.”
Allison seems preoccupied. She wears her trademark quizzical look “But why did you hire me? You didn’t know about my gifting then.”
“Two good reasons,” said Manuel brightly, staring at her chest.” He flushed suddenly, turned away, and then added unconvincingly, "You were very presentable at the interview. And kind of perky and smart too."
But am I a good Para-legal? Allison asked, anxiously.
“Remind me, what is a Para-legal?” Enquired Manuel.

A month later and Allison is in bed with Joe as usual but this time Allison is animated, her eager eyes sparkle with excitement, like those of a young puppy.
“So you see Joe, the whole nightmare/psychic thing is about adolescence and the sudden and dramatic development of large breasts.
My therapist friend Pam showed me that I’m repressed. If I just fully acknowledge my womanly figure we’ll both get a good night’s sleep.”
The other issue is that our bed is a place of trama for both of us. I have blood-soaked nightmares every night and you get woken up and have me recounting the dreams. So neither of us get a good nights sleep. What we both need to do is add some positive activity to the bed experience.
“You mean like reading a book or playing a board game?” enquired Joe.
“No, no Joe. Better than a book or a game. We go European. We walk around naked and sleep naked. I needn’t be repressed anymore.”
Joe shakes his head a little because he has forgotten what his wife's breasts look like. Allison suddenly pulls her hideous 'old-man' nightie over her head and then begins to release the exposed heavy duty bra. Finally, she tosses her underwear into the furthest corner of the bedroom.
“There. What do you think Joe?” she asks
breathlessly, tossing her blond hair from side to side.”
“I’m convinced,” says Joe, without any hesitation. “I’m not sure what CBS will make of it though,” he mutters as he takes his wife hungrily in his arms.
Next Morning
“That was fantastic,” said
Allison, still naked. I got a fabulous
nights sleep except for when you kept waking me up.
You were very demanding last night, you know. Anyway, those disturbing dreams seem to have gone”
“But won’t that stop you
doing your job?” Asked Joe, also naked.
“No. remember that that I’m a fully qualified Para-legal. The DA didn’t hire me just because of my amazing paranormal gifts.”

The DA’s Office, a month later. Manuel looks tired and anxious. Allison DuBois has a new found smugness about her.
“Allison don’t you have anything for me? A dream of a shooting maybe, even a bank holdup or an arson attack? What about a plot in the planning stage? Crime prevention would be better than nothing.
Or what about that other Arab guy they think may be holed up in Afghanistan or Pakistan?”
“Oh you mean Osama bin Laden? I think he may be in Pakistan in a big mansion. I see pet rabbits and high walls. He watches himself on TV a lot. Anyway the CIA are on to him. " She checks her watch.
“Give me a break Alison. I need a map reference at least. My poll ratings are falling like a stone and the election is in two weeks.”
“Look Manuel, I don't do that bad dream stuff any more. I just get a good night's sleep. Well once Joe has finished with me." She blushes and smiles to herself before continuing. "Anyway, I have to go now. Joe is waiting for me. He has something from Victoria’s Secret for me to try on.”
Allison grins sweetly to herself, a cat that got the cream smile, and, anticipating another torrid encounter with Joe, walks briskly from the office and heads for the parking lot.
Medium - Future Directions Plus New Networks
The next morning Allison wakes with a smile on her face. She rouses Joe with a sharp prod.
“Hey I actually had a dream last night!”
“Oh no, not that again?”
“No not one of those 'slasher movie' dreams. This was a silly, normal dream."
"So get this, in the dream NBC had a TV show about us which runs successfully for 5 seasons. In series 6 NBC drop us but CBS takes it over. Then in season 7 CBS drop us mid season.
The final episode has you dying in a plane crash, and me becoming an attorney. The good news is we meet up again on the other side. The original story line, before the CBS axe fell, was I would start sleeping naked and then loose my psychic powers."
"Like in real life? So why did they axe the show? Was it because of the nudity and our passionate love making?"
"Yes that plus the lack of any violence. They declared It was no longer suitable for US TV. The good news was the show moved to a niche Indie production company in Canada. They distributed it very successfully to HBO, the BBC and networks across Europe and South America and we get a Season 8 plus 'Medium the Movie'. Isn’t that the weirdest dream?"
"Great dream Honey. Hey Alison, don’t forget to put some clothes on before you go to work!"
"Yeh, that would give my new boss a real shock!"
"Shame poor Manuel lost the election but there you go. Canada here we come!"

its a very well made tv show with lots of sort of unexpected trippy stories... it feels "realistic"... going into the so-called critical season, it has to be more gripping so it can last for another 2 seasons...

I love medium! I started to watch it this year, the first one I saw and that really catched my eye was ' baby fever' and I just love after a long week after school to just go home relax and watch a new episode of my favourite show. I have all the seasons and watched every episode and I'm in love with this show. And I really want there to me a season 7 at least. It's a very good show with a lot of thriler, mystery, crime and a little bit of humor. I love all the characters and their talent so please come back for one more season!!!!

Don't worry doreet, it was just one of Alison's dreams - remember they don't always come true. As far as I know Season 7 will be made by CBS but who knows what surprises the future will bring?
This is my favorite show I think her hairstyle looks better long. I didn't know about the bra under the nigth clothes still a great show.
Love the show. Love all of the actors on the show. Don't leave us. Were not all about nudity and sleep wear.

I never even knew Medium was being cancelled until tonight. I loved this show. My husband told me not to cry.... well I almost did. The show had great writing. I don't understand the whole Production switch or the show becoming not suitable for US viewers? Another network should pick this show up. Come on HBO!!!
Im also a big fan here in Australia. I would also like to know when series 7 will be released on DVD because although they started showing series 7 here (episodes 1 & 2) in Australia, as soon as the news came out that the US was going to cancel the series in January, our local station stopped showing episodes and didnt even finish showing Series 7! Was not happy!
Its such an awesome show, will be very sadly missed. Lets hope the Canadian company picks it up and sells it to other countries. Im sure Medium has a huge international support base.

I watched the finale episode last night and of course started crying at the end. This show has been AMAZING throughout the years and I hope someone else will pick it up and still show it in the US! I love to be a part of this show! My goodness I'm going to miss the Dubois family... my second family..

I couldn't believe that the show was cancelled. As I din't know until the end and they were all saying good-bye. I really don't understand what is wrong with the US. Why is it that all their shows have to be more sexually orinated. My 16 year old son also loved the show. If we know we were going to miss it, we would record it to watch later. How can CBS be so mindless. It seems that great, interesting shows get cancelled while really really stupid comedy or reality show gets put on and never ends. I hate stupid comedies and reality shows. No into getting my kicks of someone's elses misery or mistakes. No wonder there is so much crime and violence down there. TV has everyone trying to do what reality and gory TV shows show on them. Something based on true people in real life that is not sexually involved or bloody don't get to stick around too long. Im surprise that the CSI series are not next in line. They are really good shows and informative just like Medium. I do hope that Canada do pick it up and we here knows a good show when we see it..

I have watched every episode at least twice (baby love is the best!! especially that raid sequence) I always thought that it could go to at least season 8!! More so than Buffy or SG1.
I didn't even know SG1 had finished and I still miss FireFly!
Are you sure it wasn't cancelled because of housewives of beverly hills and the dinner with the real Allison at Camille's house ( kelsea gramer's soon to be ex wife, he owns the production company that did the show).
Allison's behavior was insane to say the least with her comments, drinking and hand motions. After seeing this and really liking the series I would not watch the show again

OMG! Just found out that this exceelent show as been cancelled as I live in the UK!!! Am so shocked! This was my guilty pleasure and I loved every freakin episode and have all the box sets (apart from Season 7 of course). Is this show gonna get picked by any channels ???? They don't know what they are missing if they let this one pass by!!!
I also watched the last show without knowing it until the end of it. I cried my eyes out. I didn't like that they killed Joe & left Allison alone to raise her kids...it didn't seem fair after all the good she did. I also hope that another networks picks the show up...

Medium has been my favorite TV show since it first aired on NBC and I'm very sorry that it has been canceled. My hope now is that one of the networks will pick it up and and continue with both Patricia Arquette, Jake Weber as the main characters along with their daughters. It is a great show.

She is the reason the show was canceled. It seems impossible for anyone connected with the show Medium to continue after the dinner was aired.Patricia is lovely! Allison is Not!

Just saw the last episode of Medium, actually the last three in a row. Bad move CBS. That was so very cruel of you to cancel such a great series! I hope that whomever decided to cancel the show has a horrible remainder of your miserable existence, everyone at your funeral (that actually shows up) spits on you, and that you rot in hell. If I ever see you walking on the sidewalk, well, let's just say I'll go to prison for a long time. And they won't need a medium to figure that out!

I looked forward too watching Medium every week! Their are so many reality shows on now, I don't even turn the TV on until after 11pm to lifetime to watch reruns of How I Met Your Mother. It was a great show, a real atmosphere feeling to me how a family is and how they have to jugle their life style when you have kids. Whomever made this decision really disappoints me greatly! Next you won't be televising UT football!! Such a shame... Listen to your viewers and get your ducks in a roll!!

i just watch the last episode and truly cannot believe that this is the last time i get to see the Dubois family characters. it had me to tears when they revealed that Joe died. i hope they find a way to bring this show back. sincerely a True fan.
ive just found out/realised i just watched the last episode!!! i am gutted! Joe cant die! and the show must go on! so sad.
Well what can i say, I sat down, put the latest episode of Medium on without reading the write up as that usually ruins the plot, and recieved the biggest shock ever, I had no idea they were cancelling it, or killing off Joe. I spent the whole episode thinking like others, ok, in a minute she will wake up, then she did, ok so he's dead, yeah right, just another double twist but still a dream ect....... I can't see how they could continue onto another season now with an ending like that unless they pull a dallas stunt with the return of bobby ewing (Yes, i'm showing my age although i was little at the time lol)I must say as last ever episodes go, that sucked, it left you feeling cheated and it felt obvious it was cut mid season, I thought they would eventually move onto the children as they grew up, see their lives unfold over future season's if they needed a change of characters, they certainly built their background's so it would of felt natural to do so and that was how it felt they were leading us to think it was heading in season 6.... so as a final thought from England.... CBS, you suck
im soo sad its over cried my eyes out dont think it was the best way to end it would have liked joe not to have died it was terrible.... also one thing that gets to me about the show was how everyone even joe always doubted allisons dreams even though she was always solving the crimes and also how joe always whinged about his sleep

OMG i can't believe it's all over!! I have just cried my eyes out watching the last episode. Medium was one of the best programs i watch. gutted there'll be no more. All the actors were so amazing! hope it comes back one day. Goodluck to you all x
I liked the last episode of Medium and have watched it from the begining&have all the box sets, i think it was a fitting way to end the programme as they were a FAMILY which worked well done to all who worked on it you made it great viewing&an enjoyable programme

Medium was my favorite show. I think it was so undervalued by both CBS and NBC. I was sad to see it go. The finale made me tear up. Great hub, rated all ups!
I'm so sad to see this wonderful series come to an end. That last episode was so damn sad I still weep every time I think of it. That family deserves a better ending than that. Please bring it back make that last episode seem like another nightmare for Allison. She is an amazing actress and so is everyone in the cast I grew to love all of them. I honestly can't imagine not having them as a part of life. Please bring the show back at least another season where none of the characters we love die nor suffer in excruciating agony.
Bring back medium..... I really hope a season eight of meduim is made, its such a great show, with such good actors. The last episode in the very last series was to far in the future. Why jump 7 years and then jump 41 years? And why make it so sad and kill off joe. Please make this last episode just a dream and bring back medium.

There are very few series which has it all excitement slow story build up intriging and often you are in in like a chessplayer analizer. And it always ands quite good. And if you've seen o good episode. You think about it a very long time because there is always som hidden message in every episode. This series make my lif better.
